Lindahl, Alvin H.
Alvin H. Lindahl, 84, of Vinton, died Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids due to complications of pneumonia. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton, with the Rev. Larry Davis officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. Interment, with military honors, will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.
Alvin was born July 29, 1926, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Hugo and Emmy (Bengtsson) Lindahl. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton in 1944. Alvin proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
On May 29, 1955, Alvin was united in marriage with Nola Christine Baldwin in Vinton. The couple farmed in the Vinton area until retiring in 1993. Nola preceded Alvin in death on Oct. 24, 2010.
Alvin enjoyed woodworking and bird watching.
Alvin is survived by one son, Darwin Lindahl of Iowa City; two daughters, Brenda (Doug) Sutton of Vinton and Ranae (Brad) Lenderink of Castle Rock, Colo.; one brother, Herbert (Mary Ann) Lindahl of Holly Hill, S.C.; sister-in-law, Joan Lindahl of Vinton; and four grandchildren, Heather Sutton, Amanda Carpenter and Austin and Ashley Lenderink.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nola; and one brother, Harold Lindahl.
A memorial fund has been established.
