Linda K. (Hill) Underwood, 63, of Mechanicsville, died Thursday, July 3, 2015, at the Mechanicsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by her family. A celebration of life for Linda will be Thursday, July 9, at 11 a.m. at Cottonwood United Methodist Church, rural Wayland, with Pastor Nancy Sutherland officiating. Burial will follow in the Cottonwood Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church one hour before the service from 10 to 11 a.m.
A memorial fund has been established for the Mechancsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the Cottonwood Cemetery.
Linda K. (Hill) Underwood was born May 27, 1952, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, the daughter of Lester and Mary (Sinn) Hill. She graduated from WACO High School. In 1992, she was united in marriage to Paul Underwood in Cedar Rapids.
Linda was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, writing poetry and reading Scripture.
She was very involved in the lives of her children. Linda bravely endured MS for 21 years, never letting the disease define her, instead using her faith and strong spirit to bring blessings to others.
Survivors include her husband, Paul, of Des Moines; a son, Ryan (Jill) Hill of Lisbon; five stepchildren, Becky (Tim) Edie of Reedsburg, Wis., Steve (Dale) Underwood of Garrison, Diane (Lyndon) Iddings of Edmondton, Canada, Lowell (Elizabeth) Underwood of Fairfax and Lisa Lee of Des Moines; 21 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; seven siblings, Mildred Rich of Wayland, Beulah Manning of Mount Pleasant, Johnnie (Gail) Hill of Palm Springs, Calif., Violet (Harry) McGuire of Olds, Thelma (Larry) Bush and Arthur (Sandy) Hill of Burlington and Gary (Laura) Hill of Washington, Iowa.
Preceding Linda in death were her parents; a baby brother, Dwight Hill; and brothers, Dennis and Marvin Hill.
