Linda Jean Rebec Mack passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was 74.
Born March 10, 1942, and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she was the only child to Kathryn and Eugene Rebec. She attended Thomas Jefferson High School, Class of 1960. After graduation she attended the University of Iowa, where she majored in education. After graduating Phi Beta Kappa, she decided to pursue her master's degree at the University of Illinois, where she obtained a master's in education, focusing on special education.
In 1969, Linda moved to San Diego, where she met her husband, John Andrew Mack. They were married and moved to Manhattan Beach, Calif., where they remained.
Linda was a devoted wife and mother.
Linda is survived by her husband, John; two daughters, Laura Anne Mack and Lindsay Marie Mack; her daughter and son-in-law, Molly Steinbauer and Tsuyoshi Nakahara; and by her beloved grandchildren, Leon Nakahara (5), Cora Steinbauer-Mack (4), Kyra Nakahara (4) and Evan Steinbauer-Mack (17 months).
Linda's fun-loving spirit, her love of music and teaching children, and her kindness and laughter are characteristics by which she will be remembered. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 11 at Manhattan Beach Community Church, 303 S. Peck, Manhattan Beach, Calif.
