Linda Lea Hurst, 61, of North Liberty, passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 14, 2022, from natural causes.
Linda was born Oct. 18, 1960, in Chicago, Ill., to Clarence and Juanita (nee Carter) Hurst. She earned her B.A. in psychology from Iowa Wesleyan University in 1982. She eventually settled in Iowa City in 1998 and later began working at the University of Iowa. Linda was a devoted employee at the University for nearly 15 years and, at the time of her death, worked in the Shared Services Department.
Linda started her own business — Sliced: A Bakery Emporium — a few years ago. She enjoyed having a home-based project, and vending at Iowa City’s Farmer’s and Holiday Markets. She was looking forward to having her own store when she retired.
Linda was an active member of Spirit of Faith Family Church in Cedar Rapids and cherished the close friends she made there.
She will remain continually missed by her son, Zebulon B. Hurst of Madison, Wis. She is remembered as sister to Orris, Lorenzo, Saundra “Gail” and Leverne “Honie”; an adored aunt to many nieces and nephews; and a smiling face to many, many friends and colleagues.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Matthew; and siblings, Ronald and Terri.
In lieu of a funeral service and flowers, we ask that you share a memory of Linda with her family at www.lensingfuneral.com. Memorial donations can be made to The Trevor Project or PFLAG.
