Linda K. Holmes
Cedar Rapids
Linda K. Holmes, 78, of Cedar Rapids, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2021. To honor her wishes no service will be held. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Linda was born on June 22, 1943, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Herman and Mildred (Holman) Maire.
Linda gave her heart to Jesus and lived for Him in her humble, selfless, lifestyle always putting others first. Her passion was housekeeping and cleaning for anyone who had a need.
Reflecting fond memories of Linda are her two nieces and one nephew who enjoyed sleepovers with her. Morning walks to Donutland for breakfast and pizza delivered for supper. Quality time included drawing, coloring, playing Candyland Bingo and Hi Ho! Cherry-O. Her laughter and love is infectious.
She always added humor to any conversation. She once was asked if she was afraid of dying? She gave it some thought and replied: Well, I know my sins are forgiven, I believe Jesus died on the cross for my sins and I'm going to heaven. She paused a minute and said: But it's something I've never done before!!
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Derral Power and Andy Holmes; father, Herman Maire; step-mother, Ruth Maire; mother, Mildred (Holman) Maire Yanda; and half-brother, Donald Yanda II.
Survivors include her brothers, Benny (Shelia) Maire and Gene (Jan) Maire; nieces, Heidi (Jeremy) Ashby and Holly (Nick) Lombardo; nephews, Jesse (Kaci) Maire Chris Anderson; great-nieces, Alyssa Schirm, Maddelin Maire and Courtney Anderson; great-nephews, Bradley Schirm and Elliot Maire; and special friends, Daniel Blunt and Pamela Ingalls.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Linda’s name to Calvary Baptist Church, 5338 Johnson Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404.
Online condolences may be left for the family at www.cedarmemorial.com under obituaries.
