Liloree (Lil) was born Sept. 15, 1926, in Gaffney, S.C., the daughter of Roy and Geneva (Kelley) Mathis. Following graduation from Gaffney High School in 1944, Lil moved to Charlotte, N.C., where she met and fell in love with George Rasmussen, an Army Air Force second lieutenant in training for combat in the Pacific War. When George returned from occupied Japan, he proposed to Lil, and on Sept. 18, 1946, they married in Spartanburg, S.C. Soon after the wedding, Lil and George moved to George's hometown of Chicago, where they raised a family in the south suburb of Park Forest. After her children were grown, Lil worked in the Chicago offices of Blue Cross Blue Shield. Lil moved to Iowa City after George died in 1993, and for many years happily pursued her interests in antiques and quilt collecting.
Lil's family includes her three children, Jean Marie Rasmussen, Mary Ann Rasmussen (Stephen Vlastos) and John Rasmussen (Laura); grandchildren, Michael, Ann, Gabriella, Kim, Michael and Ryan; and great-grandchildren, Sophia, Teresa, Michael, Olivia, Rosllen, Michael and Abigail.
Liloree was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; and siblings, Jane Mathis Schull and Roy Dean Mathis.
