Lilly, Earl 'Bud' Charles
Earl “Bud” Charles Lilly, 77, died Thursday, March 1, 2012, at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters in Oelwein, after a lengthy illness. Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein, with Father Harry Koelker officiating. Burial: Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein. Arrangements by Geilenfeld Funeral Home, Oelwein.
Survivors include a sister, Geraldine “Gerry” Luther of Oelwein; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Lilly; and a brother-in-law, Donny Luther.
Bud was born April 3, 1934, in Oelwein, Iowa, to Earl Benton and Alice (Hunter) Lilly. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1952 and attended Loras College. He worked for the Chicago Great Western Rail Road until 1968, then worked for the Union Pacific Rail Road in Chicago, as a clerk. He retired in 1995. He lived in Independence from 1995 to 2003, then moved to Oelwein.
Earl was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a lay distributor, Knights of Columbus, Meals on Wheels driver and a Cedar Valley Hospice volunteer.
A memorial fund has been established.
