Lillian M. Sandersfeld was born July 12, 1927, in the farmhouse one-half mile east of Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg, the daughter of Millen and Martha (Wardenburg) Wiebold. She was baptized on Aug. 7, 1927 and confirmed on May 24, 1942 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She attended Immanuel Parochial School. Lillian was united in marriage to Raymond Paul Sandersfeld on Feb. 6, 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. Together they lived and farmed northeast of Conroy for many years. Lillian moved to Williamsburg nearly 20 years ago. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, gardening, flowers, fishing, bowling and playing sheepshead and rummy with family. Lillian passed away Sunday, May 21, 2017, at Mercy Hospital Iowa City at the age of 89 years.
She is survived by three children, James Sandersfeld of Wilton, Janice Sandersfeld-Wilson (Steve) of Elizabeth, Colo., and Jerry Sandersfeld (Debra) of Columbia, S.C.; four grandchildren, Christopher Sandersfeld (John Habib) San Francisco, Calif., Nicholas Sandersfeld (Sheena Makhecha) of Mountain View, Calif., Nicole Sandersfeld-Wilson of Elizabeth and Haley Sandersfeld of South Carolina; a great-grandson, Ethan; a brother, Dean Wiebold (Janice) of Williamburg; and a sister, Carolyn Kuesel (Roger) of Victor.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1989; and a sister, Darlene Walter (Robert).
A Celebration of Life service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 25, at St. John Lutheran Church near Homestead. Burial will be at St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg with a VFW Auxiliary service at 7 p.m.
