Lillian A. Hackney, 97, a lifetime resident of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, July 6, 2019, at the Hiawatha Care Center. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ludmila Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Murphy. Burial: St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE, and after
9 a.m. Thursday at the church. The rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Lillian is survived by her four children, James (Kathy) Hackney, Gary (Judy) Hackney, Marilyn Merten (Gary Gates) and Robert Hackney, all of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Frank and Jim Tresnak; and two sisters, Mary and Frances Hennessey.
Lillian was born Feb. 5, 1922, in Cedar Rapids the daughter of James and Emma (Bousek) Tresnak. She graduated from St. Wenceslaus High School in 1940, where she was a member of the Red Hawks girls' basketball team. Lillian enjoyed watching football and basketball on television, especially state college teams. She enjoyed baking apple pies and kolaches, bowling and traveling.
Lillian was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and great-aunt and will be greatly missed.
Lillian's family would like to thank the staff at the Hiawatha Care Center and Hospice of Mercy for their care and compassion.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Ludmila Catholic Church.
