Lewis, The Rev. Ronald A.
The Rev. Ronald A. Lewis, 58, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at his home. Celebration of Life: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids by the Rev. Dr. Katie Hopper, with military honors. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Susan; two daughters, Amy (Scott) Shoemaker of Omaha and Lisa (Rob) Dean of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Joey, Elizabeth, Grace, Noah and Aaron, and a greatly anticipated grandson, Lucas, due in December; four sisters, Deanna (John) Sammons, Elsie (Frank) Larkin, Frances (Frank) Perkins and Sadie (Marlin) Halsey, all of Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ron was born March 23, 1953, the son of Ashby and Sue (Merriman) Lewis, in Portsmouth, Va. He graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. On Aug. 17, 1974, Ron was united in marriage to Susan Christiansen in Fonda, Iowa. He had proudly pastored at Zion Presbyterian Church in Coggon and Christ Church Presbyterian in Cedar Rapids until his retirement in November 2010.
Ron enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of American Legion Post 727 of Cedar Rapids and was an active member of the Synod of Lakes and Prairies and Presbytery of East Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Ron's memory.
