Lewis "Lewy" was born Sept. 25, 1928, the son of Celia May Mottinger/Camp and Lewis Cecil Mottinger Sr. in Cedar Rapids.
Lewy graduated from Marion High School in 1946. In his yearbook he was described as a talented athlete, actor and "A ladies man too!" Immediately after high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps for two years, and then after a short time enlisted in the Air Force for an additional two years. After serving in the Armed Forces, "Lewy" was known as a die-hard patriot throughout the remainder of his life.
Lewy married Bonnie June Thompson from Marion and they had a daughter, Juli Ann Mottinger, and a son, Chris Lewis (Dina) Mottinger. Lewis and Bonnie divorced and later Lewis married Anna Marie Ressler in 1969. They had a son, Eric Vernon (Leslie) Mottinger.
Lewis was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Cecil Mottinger; his stepfather, Joseph Camp; his mother, Celia May Mottinger Camp; his sister, Geraldine Mottinger; and his brothers, Gilbert Camp and Frank Camp.
He is survived by his brothers, Dale (Nancy) Camp of Cedar Rapids and Dick Camp of Viola; his sister, Shirley (Rod) Thompson of Marion; grandchildren, Sarah, Kristen, Jason, Sybil, Hallie, Jaynie and Rachel; great-grandchildren, Wesley, Tate and Sophie; and sister-in-law, Diane Camp.
Lewy worked at Wilson's Packinghouse for 38 years, and then in security at ACT for an additional 20 years.
He was a simple man who enjoyed working and was committed to whatever he participated in. Lewy loved working outdoors and enjoyed taking care of the yard and gardening.
He also dearly loved all of his family and was always there when anybody needed assistance.
He will forever be lovingly missed and remembered by all.
