Lewin, Shirley Mae

Shirley Mae Lewin, 72, of Edgewood, passed away Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home, Edgewood, with Pastor Mike Jackson officiating. Interment: Mount Harmony Cemetery, rural Garber. Visitation: 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home, Edgewood.

Survivors include her children, Debbie (Chuck) Meyers of Edgewood, Robin (Chuck) Niehaus of Colesburg, Brad (Laura) Lewin of Manchester, Scott (Marlana) Lewin of Cedar Rapids, and Dawn (Jeffrey) Kelchen of Edgewood; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Burt (F. Joanne) Hoffman of Colesburg, and Dale (Darlene) Hoffman of Dubuque.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband in 1978, and her parents.

She was born June 25, 1938, in Elkport, to Wilbur and Helen (Amling) Hoffman. Shirley graduated from Edgewood High School in 1955. She was united in marriage to Eugene Lewin on July 14, 1956. Five children were born to this union. The family resided at Edgewood, where Shirley was a homemaker and worked at the Strand Cafe for many years. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, watching the Cubs, gardening and most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
