LeVan, Donald K.
Donald K. LeVan, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died at his home Monday, Nov. 18, 2013. His body has been cremated. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home with services at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, with one hour of visitation before the start of the services.
Don was born Jan. 1, 1927, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Donald and Vera (Hoyt) LeVan. Don served in the U.S. Navy as an aircraft radio man during World War II. Don was also a private pilot. He married Joan Sinclair June 5, 1948, at Mount Lebanon Methodist Church, Pittsburg, Pa. He was an NRA Shooting instructor and was active in Izaak Walton Shooting Club, teaching Hunter Safety Programs for many years. He worked in engineering as a systems and equipment designer at Rockwell Collins, including some of the designs for the unit that went to the moon. After leaving Rockwell Collins, he went on to work as a designer for Lefebure Company from which he retired in August 1991.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 298 Marion, Crescent Lodge of the Masons, he and Joan were active in the Kum Disciples Sunday school Class at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He also loved working in his rose garden and tending to his aquarium.
Donald is survived by his wife, Joan; son, Mark and his wife, Wendy LeVan of Newnan Ga.; grandson, Nicholas (Megan) LeVan; three great-grandchildren, Ryan, Eathon and Gabrielle of Newnan Ga.; one brother, Kenneth (Mary) LeVan of North Richland Hills, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Vera; and sister, Jean.
The family would like to thank Dr. Naser Payvandi for his special care of Donald throughout many years. They would also like to express their gratitude to the staff of Unity Point Hospice and especially to Tracy and Bobbie Jo, for their loving care and support during his recent illness.
In lieu of flowers memorials, may be contributed to St. Paul's United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
