Leumpert, Wilfried (Fred)
Wilfried (Fred) Leumpert, 55, of Minnesota, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, in St. Luke's Hospital. Services: 3 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy L. Leumpert of Red Wing, Minn.; his mother, Gertraud Yurkus of Rochester, N.Y.; his mother-in-law, Milda Redmond of Leander, Texas; his stepchildren, Brett Farr of Cedar Rapids, Chad Hart of Germany, and Kelley Hart of Cedar Rapids; and his stepgrandchildren, Kathy Hart and Valerie Hart, both of Marion, and Kylie Cox of Cedar Rapids.
His father preceded him in death.
Fred was born Sept. 16, 1955, in Regis-Breitingen, Germany, the son of Erich and Gertraud Dratt Leumpert. After being raised in Germany, the family moved to Rochester, New York in 1967. Fred then moved to Cedar Rapids and was employed at Rockwell Collins as an electrical engineer for 28 years. He married Nancy Hart on April 7, 2001. Later they moved to Red Wing, Minn., in 2008 and Fred worked as a baker at Walmart. He called himself the donut girl. He enjoyed working with computer, eating sour cream sandwiches and loved animals. He also loved cars and especially the Lincolns. Fred was a loving husband, stepfather and was a friend to all he met. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established by the family.
