Leu, James E. 'Jim'
James E. “Jim” Leu, 67, of Iowa City, was taken up to the Lord on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City after a short illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Father John Spiegel will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lensing Funeral Service with a parish vigil beginning at 5 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Muscatine, Iowa.
Instead of flowers, the family requests memorials to the St. Mary's Church Music Fund or Friends of the Animal Shelter Foundation.
Jim was born Sept. 15, 1945, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Elmer and Agnes (Goetzman) Leu. He graduated from Regina High School and later received degrees from St. Ambrose University and St. John's Seminary in Collegeville, Minn. Jim was a musician and performed for a multitude of events and celebrations in the Iowa City/Coralville area for many years. He had been the organist/pianist at St. Mary's in Iowa City for the past 17 years.
Survivors include his brother, Richard Leu and his wife, Joan of Wichita, Kan.; a niece, Alexis Kamman (Craig); a nephew, Brian Leu; five great-nieces and nephews; and Jim's musician friends at St. Mary's, especially Patti McTaggart.
Jim was very dedicated to his longtime Yorkshire Terriers, Claudius and Fritz.
He will be greatly missed by his musical family at St. Mary's.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
