LESTER "LES" JOSEPH SCHULTE
Norway
Lester "Les" Joseph Schulte, 92, of Norway, peacefully passed away on Friday, June 24, 2016, at West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids.
He was born in Norway, Iowa, on Jan. 13, 1924, to Joseph Adam and Clara Catherine Leise Schulte. He graduated from Norway High School. On May 3, 1944, Les married Roberta Angeline Light. Together they had five children.
He was a lifelong farmer but often worked additional jobs. These included Wilson's Meat Packing, Rapids Inc. and Westside Trucking. For many years, he enjoyed being involved with Permar Security working many University of Iowa sporting events and Amana golf tournaments. After retiring, he spent many winters in the sunshine of Fort Myers, Fla. His family and friends will always remember his humor and his love of sports, dancing and big band music.
Les is survived by his five children, Sandra (John) Phillips of Cedar Rapids, Leslie (Jay) Mowry of Swisher, Bobbie Jo (Bert) King of Longview, Texas, Louise (Don) Reeves of Fort Myers, Fla., and John L. (Marsha) Schulte of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Les was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Clara; sisters, Angela Schmidt and Viola Voss; nieces, Vila Schmidt and Bonita Voss Schmidt; and many cousins.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Norway. Burial: St. Michael's Cemetery in Norway. Friends may visit with the family from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, Cedar Rapids.
Memorial donations will be distributed to the Norway Baseball Association and the Heifer Project.
The family would like to express thanks to the Lakeview Village in Amana and West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids for the loving care they provided to Les during his years of disabilities.
