LeRoy “Swede” Pulver, 91, of Bloomfield, Iowa, formerly of Swisher, Iowa, passed away Saturday, October 25. 2025, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, surrounded by his family. Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Monday, November 3, 2025, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids with visitation from 10 – 11 a.m. Burial: Anderson Cemetery, Swisher, Iowa, with military honors.
LeRoy was born November 21, 1933, in Delhi, Iowa, the son of John and Effie (Persson) Pulver. He attended Delhi High School. LeRoy served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1952 – 1955, during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Rita Rose Morong on November 19, 1955, in Dubuque, Iowa. He worked at Wilson Foods/Farmstead in Cedar Rapids and Excel Foods in Ottumwa, Iowa. He was a member of the American Legion Post 160 in Delhi. LeRoy enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool, going to the casino, mushroom hunting, and playing cards. He was still playing 31 and winning most of the time. LeRoy loved the outdoors and enjoyed watching the abundant wildlife in his yard and pond. Maintaining his property was his favorite hobby. LeRoy would be out all day cutting the grass to keep his property looking perfect. He will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his children, John (Emma) Pulver of Cedar Rapids, Tina (Dale) Richmond of Swisher, and Barb Van Gorder of Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren, Cory (Jennifer) Richmond, Casey (Hannah) Richmond, Cole (Nicolle) Richmond, Tyler Van Gorder, and Ashlie (Larry) Mason; great-grandchildren, Dempsey, Evra, Rooney, Taggert, Truett, Kamden, and Kingsley; brothers-in-law, Charlie Hempstead, and Jim Tharp; and his cat, Rascal II.
Waiting to welcome our dad into God’s kingdom are our beautiful mother and his beloved wife, Rita Pulver; his parents; his siblings, John Pulver, Olaf “Sonny” Pulver, Jeri Haren, Jeanette Tharp, Jackie Hempstead, and Joeann Quint-Jarosik; and brothers-in-law, Jack Haren, Ernie Quint, and Bud Haren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family, honoring LeRoy’s wishes.
