Leroy O'Conner, 87, of Riverside, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015, at Oaknoll Retirement Residence in Iowa City. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside, with the Rev. Father David Brownfield, Ph.D., officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Following committal services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at St. Mary's Parish Center. Visitation will be Sunday, Dec. 20, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, with a 3 p.m. prayer service.
Memorials may be directed to the family in memory of Leroy.

Leroy Eugene O'Conner was born Feb. 24, 1928, in Riverside, Iowa, the son of William and Kathryn (Frank) O'Conner. Leroy was a 1946 graduate of St. Mary's High School in Riverside. On Aug. 10, 1949, he was united in marriage to Helena Marie Cooney at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside. Leroy was a farmer in the Riverside area his entire life.
He was a member of the Riverside Lions Club and a township trustee. Leroy enjoyed socializing with others and helping with the Democratic Party.
Leroy will be deeply missed by his children, Patrick (Chery) O'Conner of Independence, Sue (Ron) O'Conner Von of St. Paul, Minn., Mike (Christen) O'Conner of Cedar Falls, John (Penny Johnston) O'Conner of Riverside, Tim (Laura) O'Conner of North Liberty and Sara O'Conner of Oklahoma City, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Frances Duwa of Riverside, Kathleen Hernadez of Cedar Rapids and JoAnn Laures of DeWitt; one brother, William O'Conner of Albuquerque, N.M.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helena, in 2002; two sisters, Mildred Denton and Verena Roscoe; and one brother, Bernard O'Conner.
