LeRoy J. Newton, 89, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Arlington, died Thursday evening, Oct. 13, 2016, at the Western Home in Cedar Falls.
Memorial services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, at the Western Home, Windhaven Commons, 5500 S. Main St., Cedar Falls, IA 50613. Spiritual leader Caroline Martin will officiate. Private family inurnment: Taylorsville Cemetery, Arlington.
Memorial fund: Arlington United Methodist Church or Western Home Communities Foundation.

LeRoy John Newton was born June 4, 1927, in Arlington, Iowa, the son of Dixon Allen and Agnes Marie (McClarrinon) Newton. He graduated from Arlington High School, Class of 1945, and continued his education at Upper Iowa University in Fayette. LeRoy was united in marriage to Helen May Sheppard on May 30, 1948, in Manchester.
LeRoy owned and operated Newton Motor Co. in Arlington for over 40 years. He later worked for John Falb Motor Co. in West Union for nine years, retiring in 1991.
LeRoy was a member of Arlington United Methodist Church and Oelwein Hebron Masonic Lodge 374 A.F. & A.M. for over 50 years. He formerly was an Arlington City Council member and Arlington/Starmont School board member.
LeRoy is survived by his wife, Helen Newton of Cedar Falls; four children, Nancy (Mick) Puckett of Ord, Neb., John (Mary) Newton of Onalaska, Wis., Holly (Craig) Schwerdtfeger of Cedar Falls and LuAnn (Mark) Bray of Spokane, Wash.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Audrey.
