LeRoy Joseph Helle, 83, of Hopkinton, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2023, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehab in Monticello, Iowa.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville. Visitation will continue at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to funeral Mass.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 2, at St. Luke Catholic Church in Hopkinton, Iowa, with burial in Hopkinton Cemetery. The Rev. Paul Baldwin will officiate.
He was born on Sept. 16, 1940, in Dyersville, the son of George and Sedella (Kramer) Helle and Joan (Jaeger) Helle. He attended Xavier High School and graduated in 1958.
On July 11, 1970, LeRoy was united in marriage to Margie Feldmann at Immaculate Conception church in Sand Springs. Together they had four children Todd, Jeff, Jason and Amy. LeRoy drove truck for Taukes, Houlihans and All-American Homes. He also spent 10 years farming. LeRoy was a member of the American Legion Post 311. He enjoyed playing basketball, pulling ropes, attending dances, collecting Allis Chalmers toys and going to his children and grandchildren’s activities.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Margie Helle; his four children, Todd (Sarah) Helle of Tiffin, Jeff Helle of Pella, Jason (Sarah) Helle of Hopkinton and Amy (Chad) Ostwinkle of Peosta; seven grandchildren, Grant (Ashtin), Lauren, Lydia, Morgan, Donovan, Joeley and Payton; one great-grandchild, Oaklynn; siblings, Pearl Kelchen of Cedar Rapids, George (Connie) Helle of Anamosa, Paul (Stella) Helle, Frank (JoAnn) Helle, both of Dyersville, Marlene (Ambrose) Koopmann of Epworth, Ruth (Larry) Griffin of Dubuque, Bob (Cami) Helle of Dyersville, LuAnn (Bob) Cigrand of Cascade, Joanie (Tom) Tauke of Greeley and Doris (Claire) Riesberg of Dyersville; in-laws, Marilyn (Joe) Willenbring of Luxemburg, Lois (Gene) White of Worthington, Arnie (Carmen) Feldmann of Hopkinton, Linda (Mark) Opat of Cresco, Joyce (Tom) Nefzger, Connie (Rod) Nefzger, both of Earlville and Kelly Salow of Delhi; and many nieces and nephews.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, George Helle, Sedella Helle and Joan Helle; daughter in-law, Tammy DeHeer Helle; siblings, Henry Helle, Sister MaryAnn Helle, Norma Kelchen, Kathleen Helle and Janet Schwendinger; and in-laws, Cletus and Rita Feldmann, Floyd Feldmann, Harold Kelchen, Gerald Kelchen, John Schwendinger, Dennis Willenbring, Dale Feldmann and Mae Salow.
The family would like to thank the staff at Monticello Nursing and Rehab along with Above and Beyond Hospice for all of their support through this journey.
