Leota E. Schwers, 93, of Hiawatha, passed away Friday, April 14, 2023. A visitation will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023, 10 to 11 a.m., at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. Burial at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
Leota Elizabeth Gallagher was born June 5, 1929, in Brooklyn, Iowa, to Patrick and Susanna (Hauersperger) Gallagher. She graduated from Brooklyn High School, then attended Business School in Cedar Rapids. She met her husband, Alfred Schwers, at Coe College. The two were united in marriage on April 26, 1951.
Leota’s life revolved around her family, and she particularly loved spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling with Al and their children and she also loved to garden and tend to her outside flowers.
Left to cherish Leota’s memory are her daughters, Paula Schwers and Trish (Joe) Ackerman; special son, Paul Lair; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Al; son, David Schwers; and her parents.
