Leonard B. Wulfekuhle, 92, of Independence, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, at his home in Independence.
Leonard was born Sept. 23, 1923, near Earlville, Iowa, the son of William H. and Kathryn M. (Knipper) Wulfekuhle. He attended Earlville schools, then farmed with his father. On Feb. 6, 1945, he was married to Vera A. Ronnebaum at St. Mark's Catholic Church, Edgewood. The couple farmed in the Greeley and Lamont area before moving in 1976 to Independence, where Leonard worked for Roy's Feed & Seed, Triangle Plastics and Greenley Lumber Co. before his retirement.
He was a devout husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family.
Leonard always enjoyed a good joke and going to casinos.
He is survived by three children, Jerry (Stacy) Wulfekuhle, Plantation, Fla., Don (Judy) Wulfekuhle, Independence, and Marcia Wulfekuhle, Waterloo; two grandchildren, Tanya (Jason) Jones, West Des Moines, and Jason (Julie) Wulfekuhle, Grimes; four great-grandchildren, Carter, Claire, Claudia and Jackson; and two stepgrand-children.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vera, on Nov. 5, 2015; five brothers, Lawrence, Arnold, Harold, Floyd and Wilbur Wulfekuhle; and sister, Arleene Ronnebaum.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church, Independence, with the Rev. Don Plamondon officiating. Burial: St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 8 to 10 a.m. Thursday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, where a parish vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
