Leonard, William 'Bill'
William “Bill” Leonard, 88, longtime resident of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at his home. Graveside Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include a son, Gary Leonard of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Cheryl, Lynette, Jessie and Kirsten; great-grandchildren, Geordyn, Justyce and Passion; sister, Georgia Langton of Cedar Rapids; and a daughter-in-law, Hazel Leonard of Waterloo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Grace Leonard; wife, Leona; a son, Dennis Leonard; a brother, Clarence "Bud" Leonard; and three sisters, Frances, Geraldine and Louise.
William was born on Sept. 19, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, son of Bert and Grace (Kilts) Leonard. He married Leona Banks on Oct. 19, 1945, in Cedar Rapids; she later passed away on July 11, 2009. William was a postal worker for the United States Postal Service for 31 years. He served in the United States Army during World War II. William was a member of the American Legion Post 5, VFW Post 788 and DAV.
William will be loved and missed by all who knew him.
