Leonard C. Timm, 77,
of Marengo, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed to his heavenly home on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 7, Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. David Renfro officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 6, at the church.
Memorials may be contributed to Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Leonard was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who is survived by his wife of 49 years, Gwendolyn; a son, the Rev. Gary (Dawn) Timm of Westfield, N.J.; two daughters, Linda (Kevin) Hankemeier of Normal, Ill., and Marsha Leibundguth (John) of River Forest, Ill.; and six grandchildren, Ryan Hankemeier of Normal, Caleb Timm of Westfield, N.J., Justin Hankemeier of Normal, Naomi Timm of Westfield, Luke Leibundguth of River Forest and Lauren Leibundguth of River Forest. Also surviving are a sister, Charlotte Blaschke (David) of Mount Pleasant, Texas; and a brother, E. Allen Timm of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents and has been reunited with them in their heavenly home.
Leonard Charles Timm was born July 28, 1938, in Marengo, Iowa, the son of Everett John Timm and Fern Florence Weiss Timm. He attended Conroy Lutheran School and graduated from Marengo High School with the class of 1956. Leonard served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1960, stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He and Gwendolyn Gould were married Oct. 22, 1966, in Marengo. Leonard was employed for 37 years with B.G. Brecke's Mechanical Contractor in Cedar Rapids. He was a dedicated and active volunteer member and former trustee (including chairman) of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids and a 50-year union member of Plumbers and Fitters Local 126. He enjoyed traveling, was a John Wayne enthusiast and a loyal U.S. Navy veteran. He spent many hours working on classic and performance cars and won many drag-racing trophies in his youth. But most of all, he cherished his time spent with his family and friends.
