Leonard "Len" John Moellers Jr., 67, of Vinton, died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2016. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at the funeral home by Arlen Holten. Private committal services will take place at a later date.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Moellers of Vinton; children, Lara (Bryan Giblin) Moellers of Marion, Jason (Lori) DeWald of Newhall, Melissa (Travis Bryan) Cowdin of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Joshua DeWald of Marion, and their mother, Janie Fairchild of Marion; Renae (Chad Pirtle) Becker of Marion; and seven grandchildren, Arielle, Camryn, Ryan, Sagan, Lillian, Noah and Avery.
Also surviving are three sisters, Margaret (James) Elsbernd of Ossian, Ann (Philip) Brunkhorst of Lamont and Jane (Carl) Thoresen of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one niece.
Len was born Sept. 8, 1948, the son of Leonard and Marietta (Remke) Moellers, in Decorah, Iowa. In 2009, he married Connie Jean (Hartzler) Becker at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He was a test technician at Rockwell Collins for 43 years before retiring in 2010.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus Marion Council 09653, Cedar Valley Rock & Mineral Society and the United States Power Squadron.
He was a big outdoorsman. He loved hunting, camping and fishing. Len was a "handyman" and a master inventor in creating anything imaginable to make his life easier. There wasn't anything Len could not do, including making maple syrup.
