LEONARD DOSTAL Traer Leonard W. Dostal died at age 85 on Thursday, April 30, 2015, at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer. Leonard was born Feb. 15, 1930, in Toledo, Iowa, the son of Peter and Albina (Podhajsky) Dostal. He grew up in Toledo, attending country school and graduating from Toledo High School with the class of 1948. Leonard enlisted in the United States Marines. He was stationed in Barstow, Calif., for two years and worked as a court reporter. On June 6, 1953, Leonard was united in marriage to Maryan Wacha at the chapel of the U.S. Marine Base in Barstow. Upon his return from service, Leonard started farming and milking cows near Clutier and Traer. He later worked as an insurance adjuster while continuing to farm. Leonard was an extremely passionate farmer, a true steward of the land. He was very active in his church and volunteered frequently. He also made sure there was vacation time with the family every year. Most of all, Leonard enjoyed visiting with people. He was a member of St. Paul and St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, National Farmers Organization (NFO), KD Lodge, American Legion and the Tama County Democrats. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maryan, on Dec. 17, 2014; a son, Thomas Dostal, at age 9; a grandson in infancy, Gabriel Dostal; and a brother, Stanley Dostal. Leonard is survived by his children, JoAnn (Chuck) Murphy of Dike, Loren (Sarah) Dostal of Toledo, Jeff (Julie) Dostal of Traer, Barb (Kendall) Jordan of Toledo and Martin (Anita) Dostal of Traer; grandchildren, Michael (Kristen), Jason and Lindsay Murphy, Trace and Zach Stegman, Jacob Dostal, Alexa and Jackson Dostal, Nicholas and Megan Jordan, and Joshua, Bryce and Hunter Dostal; a great-grand-daughter, Claire Murphy; many nieces and nephews; and his extended family at Sunrise Hill Care Center. The visitation will be Monday, May 4, from 4 to 7 p.m., with a rosary service at 4 p.m., at Overton Funeral Home in Traer. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Traer. Burial will follow at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in rural Clutier.
