Leonard T. Cooney, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died July 4, 2017, at Meadowview Memory Care Village. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Jude Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Reasoner. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery, Iowa City. Friends may visit with the family on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home, and at the church Tuesday after 9:30 a.m.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, Pat (Jim) Mayberry of Cedar Rapids, Don Cooney of Lexington, Ky., and Ann (Wes) Nelson of Springville; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sisters, Wilma (Charles) Mullinnix of Lone Tree and Doris (Eugene) Ruth of Riverside.
He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Elma Cooney; and one granddaughter.
Leonard Thomas was born Sept. 24, 1924, to Thomas and Rose Hogan Cooney in Holbrook. On Nov. 27, 1947, Leonard was united in marriage to Dorothy Marie Greazel at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Iowa City. For over 20 years, he was an inspector for FMC-Link Belt and Iowa Precision.
Leonard found joy in woodworking and stone polishing. His skills allowed him to create beautiful furniture, picture frames and elegant jewelry for his friends and family. He also delighted in eating a large bowl of ice cream.
Leonard will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends.
