Leona A. Urban, 97, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, at Hiawatha Care Center in Hiawatha, Iowa. Funeral services: 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, at St Jude Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Entombment: Linwood Cemetery. There will be a reception following at the Moose Lodge. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
Leona was born Jan. 19, 1920, near North Liberty, Iowa, the daughter of William and Anna (Serbousek) Shupitar. She worked at Cedar Rapids Hardware for several years. Leona married Henry "Hank" Urban on Oct. 24, 1946. They enjoyed bowling together and would enjoy many years traveling throughout the United States to participate in state and national tournaments. Leona enjoyed being a homemaker, and in later years, working at Armstrong's Department Store. Leona was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards in card club, walking at Westdale Mall, and, in her spare time, putzing around the house.
Leona is survived by her children, Jackie (Bill) Barber of St. Charles, Mo., Janice (Larry) Donner of Cedar Rapids, Teresa (Ed) White of Knob Noster, Mo., and Donna Urban of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hank, in 2014; her parents; a brother; and a great-great- granddaughter.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association or the donor's choice in loving memory of Leona.
