Leona M. Soper, 82, of Monticello, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a period of declining health. Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, rural Monticello, with interment in the Wayne Zion Cemetery. The Rev. Wade Reddy will officiate at the services. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Leona's family has entrusted her care and services to the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.

Surviving are her three children, Sandra (John) Brodersen, Olin, David (Jamie) Soper, Center Junction, and Patricia Klocke, Anamosa; seven grandchildren, Stacy (Kevin) Osterkamp, Nicki Brodersen, Andrea (Sheldon) Hunter, Jason (Mandy) and Josh (Adriel) Soper, Chad (Rachel) Klocke and Jennifer Handel and fiance Shane Yarrington; 22 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty Steenhoek, Springfield, Mo., and Delores (Harley) Dallege, Marion.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Her husband, Glen; her son-in-law, John Klocke; and two brothers-in-law, Ron Remington and Dick Steenhoek.
Leona Mae French was born Jan. 19, 1933, in Madison Township, Jones County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Myron and Clara Eckstein French. Leona graduated from Wyoming High School with the class of 1951. Leona worked at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa and at Reliance Shirt Factory in Anamosa. Leona Mae French married Glen Soper on May 26, 1951, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. The couple farmed in Jones County until 1998 when they moved to Monticello. Leona was an active member of the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church for many years. Leona always enjoyed going camping but fishing was her true passion.
