Leona M. Lundeen, 76, of Sacramento, Calif., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died March 20, 2014, at Mercy San Juan Hospital, Carmichael, Calif. Visitation and services in Cedar Rapids will be announced at a later date. Private burial will take place in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Steven and Mary Lundeen; sister, Lillian J. Napoli of Walnut Creek, Calif.; and a beloved extended family consisting of nephews, a niece and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry J. Lundeen; her parents, Lester and Emma Hodina of Cedar Rapids; and her beloved Lhasa Apso dog.
Leona Hodina was born Aug. 17, 1937, in Cedar Rapids. She graduated from Wilson High School in 1955 and worked for the telephone company before transferring to Pacific Bell's Oakland, Calif., office. She met her husband, Larry Lundeen, in California, and they were married in 1966. In 1969, with their young children, Leona and Larry moved back to Cedar Rapids, where they lived until returning to Northern California in 1980.
Leona began a civil service career with the federal government at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in 1987 and later transferred to McClellan Air Force Base, where she worked as a personnel specialist until her retirement in 1999.
She passed away after a long and courageous fight with Multiple System Atrophy.
Leona's sense of humor and strength will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
