Leona Mae Feuerbach, 96, went to her eternal home on Monday, Aug. 20, 2018, at the Keystone Nursing Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone with the Rev. B. Andrew Wright officiating. Interment will be held at the Keystone Cemetery. Friends may call from
4 until 7 p.m. Thursday at the Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone.
Leona was born Sept. 23, 1921, in Keystone, one of four daughters of Arthur and Cora (Pohlmann) Katz. On Nov. 8, 1947, she was united in marriage to Luverne C. Feuerbach in Naperville, Ill. They farmed in Benton County for many years until retirement.
A longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Keystone, Leona dedicated her life to her faith and her family. She also enjoyed cross stitch, playing cards, fishing and any family gathering. She was proud of being one of the original members of the Twelve Belles, a potluck and cardplaying group that endured for decades. She was also a 70-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Leona is survived by her four children and their spouses, Bruce (Velda) Feuerbach of Atkins, Susan (Gary) Valenta of Elberon, Sara (Tom) Wessling of Atkins and Daniel (Lynn) Feuerbach of Spring, Texas; her grandchildren and spouses, Lisa (Steve) Biery, Mike Feuerbach, Heath Wessling, Heidi (Scott) Keiper, Brian (Leslee) Valenta, Clint (Tasha) Feuerbach, Katy Hernandez and Ryan (Keshia Hurst) Feuerbach; 19 great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Evelyn Feuerbach.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Luverne; her three sisters, Ruth Numrich, Bernice Hergenhahn and Marilyn Junge; and her grandson, Lance Cpl. Jeffrey Feuerbach.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Keystone Nursing Care Center for not only taking care of Leona while she was a resident there, but for loving her.
