Leon Dale Sr., 63, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Waterloo, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, at St. Luke's Medical Center's Hospice Unit from pancreatic cancer
He was born Sept. 21, 1954, the son of Leo Dale and Johnnie Mae Harris Dale, and was raised in Chicago with his mother, Johnnie Mae Wimbley, and stepfather, Luther Wimbley. He married Helen Newton in the mid-1970s. They later divorced. He married Shari Williams on March 1, 1986, in Waterloo.
In 1984, Leon moved to Waterloo to be closer to his father and extended family. He was a lithographer/printer by trade and also had a career in sales and customer service.
He is survived by his wife; his son, Leon "Skeet" Dale Jr. of Chicago; his stepchildren, "Torey" Willams Sr. and "Shai" Porter and "Taya" Porter of Waterloo and Cedar Falls; his mother, Johnnie Mae (Luther) Wimbley; his sisters, Rose (Duane) Banks, Essie (Anglan) Brown, Annie (Thomas) Denton and Nichelle (Mark) Hamer, and a brother, Ray C. (Jackie) Wimbley Sr., all of Illinois; and Kandie (Leon) Higgins of Waterloo, Marvin (Zaneta) Dale of Minnesota, the Rev. Brian (Ingrid) Dale of Oelwein and Keith Masseo of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his father; three brothers, Robert Dale, James Wimbley and Keon "Roosevelt" Dale; and two grandsons, JaQuis Porter and DeQuarious Porter.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, at St. Mark's Baptist Church in Waterloo. He was cremated Feb. 27.
