Leo Vincent Engel, 79, passed away at the Oldorf Hospice House on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.
A visitation will be held at the Central Assembly of God Church, 3030 F Ave. NW in Cedar Rapids, on Thursday, Aug. 25,, 2022 from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the Central Assembly of God Church on Friday, Aug. 26, at 10:30 a.m. with the Pastor Mark Thomas officiating. Interment to follow at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery-Lakeview.
Leo was born on Jan. 16, 1943, in Tolstoy, S.D. He was the son of the late Vincent and Katherine (Wolff) Engel. Leo graduated from Gettysburg High School. On April 11, 1964, Leo married the love of his life, Judy Goehring, in Gettysburg, S.D. He worked in the Homebuilders Department at Menard’s for 37 years before his retirement.. He was a member of the Central Assembly of God Church. Leo enjoyed his missionary work in South Dakota, hunting and fishing with his family, and visiting with everyone at Pizza Ranch as well as Ryan’s Steakhouse.
Those left to cherish Leo’s memory are his wife, Judy; his sons, Randy (Heather) Engel of Toddville, Iowa, and Jeff Engel of Marion, Iowa; his grandchildren, Ashlynn (Seth) Rauch, Autumn Engel, Colton Engel and Arissa Engel; his great-grandchildren, Everly Rauch and Brantley Rauch; his brothers, Leland Engel, Steven Engel, Donavon (Cindy) Engel and James (Jody) Engel; his sisters, Diane (Steve) Taylor, Camille (Sam) Maness, Valerie (Ken) Spindler and Crystal (Nick) Bown; and his beloved dog, Romeo (AKA Boy). He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Quinton Engel.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Oldorf Hospice House.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Oldorf Hospice House for all the love and support they showed Leo while he was in their care.
