Leo Ray Nissen, 86, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Leo was born May 24, 1936, in a farmhouse in Jones County, the son of Henry and Grace (Von Roden) Nissen. He retired from Cargill after 36 years of service. He also served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1958-64. He enjoyed working auto mechanics and could fix anything. He was a member of the Wapsipinicon Ridge Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses Marion, Iowa. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by wife, Donna M. Nissen; children, Leon Nissen (Chris Chrzan), Anamosa, Quinn Nissen (Teresa Mitchell), Cedar Rapids, Dorle Kartak Bieker (Jim), Oregon, Jeff (Carolyn) Thompson, Wisconsin, Nancy Olson, Wisconsin, and Connie Thompson, Wisconsin; daughter-in-law, Jody Nissen, Cedar Rapids; brothers, Garry Nissen, Fairview, and Martin (Karen) Nissen, Cedar Rapids; 19 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; children, Jorg Nissen, Rick Kartak and Laurie Higgins; grandchildren, Kenzie Nissen and Cecelia Thompson; siblings, Carl Nissen, Erna Klinefelter and Marcella Hubbard; in-laws, Jack Hubbard, Bob Klinefelter, Velma Nissen, Deb Lathrop and Kalvin Olson.
There will be a Celebration of Life gathering from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at The American Legion of Iowa, Post 298 625 31st St., Marion, Iowa. A Memorial service on Zoom will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3. Please call (319) 540-6583 for
