Leo Milton Schmidt was born January 22, 1937, at home west of Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of Milton and Edna (Latscha) Schmidt. He graduated from Williamsburg High School, then joined the United States Army for two years. Leo was united in marriage to Eva Swanson on June 25, 1961 at St. John Lutheran Church near Homestead. The couple made their home west of Williamsburg where Leo was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling, doing jigsaw puzzles and spending time with his family. Leo died Friday, January 19, 2024, at the Compass Memorial Hospital in Marengo at the age of 86 years.
He is survived by his wife Eva; four children, Lisa Schmidt Edwards of Cedar Rapids, Ann Doehrmann of Williamsburg, Samuel (Leisa) Schmidt of Williamsburg and Peggy Noelle of San Diego, California; 9 grandchildren, Danielle Lyons, Weston Edwards, Derek (Christina) Doehrmann, Shelby (Matthew) Meyers, Drew (Kendra) Doehrmann, Samara Schmidt, Christoffer Schmidt, Caitlin (Josh) Baerg and Caleb Capper; and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Elaine (Bud) Johnson, grandson Wendell Lyons and a sister-in-law Frances (Earl) Schmidt.
