Leo "Lee" Richard Claude, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, surrounded by family, at Solon Nursing Care Center in Solon, Iowa. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with visitation one hour prior to service. Private family burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Lee was born July 24, 1927, the son of George and Christina (Frahm) Claude, in Bismarck, N.D. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II from 1945 to 1948. On Feb. 14, 1950, Lee was married to Evangeline Mae Chukas. Lee worked as a photo engraver for The Gazette as well as in sales for Linn Litho. He was a member of United Church of Christ in Cedar Rapids, until its closing in 2008. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and traveling. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Evangeline Claude; two daughters, Christine (Kevin) Vandersee and Tracy (Rick) Chase; six grandchildren, Kurt Vandersee, Danny Vandersee, Shawn (Jered) Camp, Tyler Chase, Jason (Karey) Chase and Julie (Tim) Griffin; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, David Claude.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Shriners, or to a charity of your choice in memory of Lee.
