LEO FREDERICK
Lisbon
Leo E. Frederick, 89, of Lisbon, died Tuesday, March 14, 2017. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Friday, March 24, at First Federated Church, Lisbon. Burial: 1:45 p.m. same day in Lisbon Cemetery. Arrangements by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon.
He is survived by his children, Joel (Marj) Frederick of Brighton, Colo., Jon (Lori) Frederick of Fredericksburg, Va., and Jane Frederick of Longmont, Colo.; grandchildren, Morgan (Justin) Stork of Ames, Sofia Turley-Frederick of Portland, Ore., Kyle Frederick of Brighton, Colo., and Lauchlan Pierce of Fredericksburg, Va.; sisters-in-law, Laurel Lewis of Center Point and Delores Lewis of Williamsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Leo was born to William and Georgia (Dance) Frederick on Feb. 13, 1928, on the farm his grandparents built, and from where he transcended to heaven.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War as a member of the 7th Army Hospital Band, Valley Forge, Pa. On July 29, 1956, he married Collette Lewis in Center Point. They raised three children, sharing his love of music, birds, hunting, fishing and trapping with them. He also enjoyed woodworking, as well as aerial and still photography.
After graduating from Iowa State with a bachelor's degree in farm operations, Leo began his farming career, which included raising Black Angus cattle. He was one of the first in the area to incorporate no-till farming and practiced regular crop rotation.
Leo was generous with his hospitality, inviting missionaries to stay at the farm, and was a second father to many.
Leo was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sister, Elizabeth VanderSchaaf; and brothers-in-law, Howard VanderSchaaf and Sam Lewis Jr.
Memorials may be directed to the Missionary Fund at First Federated Church, Lisbon, or the Lisbon History Center.
