Lenny Gene Cornell, 65, of Shellsburg, Iowa, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021, at his home. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, 2021, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. All guests are respectfully requested to wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Lenny was born Dec. 1, 1955, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Bill and Jocelyn (England) Cornell. He graduated from Kennedy High School in 1974. On Feb. 2, 1974, Lenny married Sonjia Mather in Cedar Rapids. He worked for Nash-Finch Co. for 24 years and for Pat and Mike McGrath for 20 years. He recently retired in December of 2020. Lenny was strong in his faith. He was a member of Spring of Life Foursquare Church in Cedar Rapids. Lenny was an avid outdoorsman. He was a master angler, excellent fowl hunter, exceptional mushroom hunter, and he enjoyed being a bow hunting instructor. Above all, he loved being a grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Sonjia Cornell of Shellsburg; children, Douglas (Danelle) Cornell of Delhi, Jeffrey (Christie) Cornell of Shellsburg and Angela (Rob) Venables of Vinton; grandchildren, Zach, Hannah, Bradley, Ann and Dakota Cornell, Elliott and Kaylea Stocker and Robert Venables; great-granddaughters, Delilah Holten and Eliana Stocker; and siblings, Kristi Randall of Marion, Iowa, and Billy Cornell of Vinton, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Jocelyn Cornell; brothers, Michael and Kim Cornell; and granddaughter, Delani Venables.
