Lemme, Sylvia Monserud
Sylvia Monserud Lemme, 96, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital after a sudden illness. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, by the Rev. Jim Langley of Echo Hill Presbyterian Church, followed by burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include two sons, Dr. James (Beverly) Lemme of Knoxville, Tenn., and Dr. Charles Lemme of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Douglas Lemme of Dallas, Texas, Sara Lemme of Redding, Calif., and Beth (Joe) Beschorner of Indianola; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a brother, a sister, and a grandson.
Sylvia was born Aug. 13, 1916, to Alfred and Alma Monserud in rural Allamakee County, Iowa. She graduated from Waterville High School and Waukon Junior College. She married Milton Lemme on April 23, 1941. He died Aug. 11, 1962. She served as Deputy Clerk of Court in Waukon and, after moving to Cedar Rapids, was employed at Rockwell Collins for 20 years.
She was an active member of Kenwood Park Presbyterian Church (now part of Echo Hill Presbyterian Church) and a former member of the VFW and 34th Division auxiliaries.
Instead of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Echo Hill Presbyterian Church.
