Leme, Verna B.
Verna B. Leme, 91, of Melrose Meadows in Iowa City, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 15, 2012, at Mercy Iowa City following a short illness. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, March 19, at Zion Lutheran Church in Iowa City. Burial will be in Salem, Va.
Verna was born June 5, 1920, in Detroit, Mich., to Chester and Daisy (Grant) Ingalsbe. She was united in marriage to Alex Leme on June 6, 1942. They lived in Detroit while Al was employed as a firefighter and then retired to Salem, Va. She came to Iowa City in 2005.
She served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, PTA member, and was always active in a variety of church activities. She had a great love for travel. She enjoyed dancing and was an avid line dance enthusiast.
Survivors are her daughter, Sally Leme of Iowa City; and her son, Alan Leme of Manchester, Conn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Wayne; her sister, Donna Hartman; and her sister, Dorothy Bouford.
Verna was a loving wife, mother, and friend.
In lieu of flowers, memorials my be sent to Zion Lutheran Church, 310 N. Johnson St., Iowa City, IA 52245.
