Leland Vernon Boll, 85, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2015, in his home surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born May 17, 1929, in Dundee, Iowa, the son of Leon and Pauline Boll. He was raised on a farm and never lost his love for farming. He joined the Navy after graduating high school in Dundee. He was so proud that he was one the men who raised the first flag on the sunken Arizona. He drove a truck for many years, then retired and returned to farming, helping a neighbor plant his fields.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Boll of Dundee; one son, Steven (Randee) Boll; one daughter, Theresa (Doug) Hansen; two stepsons, David (Mary) Dickey and Mark (Cathy) Dickey; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four siblings, Linda (Darl) Toms, Jerry (Wendy) Boll, Ronnie (Janice) Boll and Karen (Jerry) Petlon; and two sisters-in-law, Edith Boll and Betty Boll.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Pauline Boll; four brothers, Arvin, Merwin, Donald and Bobbie; and one great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Hospice of Comfort.
A memorial service will be at a later date.
