Lela G. Mayes, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Christ Community Church, by the Rev. William Daylong. A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial: Troy Mills Cemetery, Troy Mills.
Survivors include her daughters, Janell (Terry) Ackerman of Center Point and Becky (Phil) High of Marion; and her grandchildren, Rod (Laurie Toll) Ackerman, Bill Ackerman, Sarah (Gene) Harper, Mike (Debbie) Ackerman, Ben (Jess) High, Wesley (Lijah Baraz) High and Alan (Aly) High.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Mayes; and brothers, Laurence and Raymond Rowe.
Lela was born Nov. 2, 1926, in Troy Mills, Iowa, the daughter of Leslie and Ruth (Fairchild) Rowe. She married Robert L. Mayes on Aug. 31, 1957, in Cedar Rapids. Lela worked for Link Belt and retired from Farmsted (Wilson) Foods.
Lela was a beloved mom, grandma and great-grandma, and will be missed by all who knew her.
A memorial fund has been established by the family.
