Lela Mae "Lee" Meves, 78, passed away at her home in Cedar Rapids on Feb. 28, 2017. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 27, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. A celebration of life will follow.
Lee was born April 18, 1939, in Marshalltown lowa, the daughter of Laurel G. and Gladys I. (Hauser) Meves. Her early years were spent in Tama County, lowa, moving to Williams, lowa, in 1948. She graduated from Williams High School in 1956 and earned an A.A. degree from Ellsworth Junior College, lowa Falls, in 1958. She attended the University of lowa. She married Phillip Abraham in lowa City in 1969, residing in Cedar Rapids and Las Vegas, Nev. They later divorced. Lee remained close to her stepson, Sam Abraham, throughout her life.
Lee had a successful career in the real estate and mortgage industry, earning her lowa Brokers Real Estate License in 1973 and becoming an lowa Accredited Real Estate lnstructor in 1979. Her career included serving as regional broker services director for lowa Partners Real Estate, manager of the closing department at Gibson Realtors, and as an instructor at Kirkwood Community College.
Lee was passionate about the theater, participating in high school and college productions and in the Cedar Rapids Community Theater. She will be remembered by friends and family for always being immaculately dressed, for her love of the performing arts, her sense of humor, love of travel, and for being a caring daughter, niece, aunt, stepmother, cousin and friend.
She is survived by an aunt, Joan Lensch; cousins, Don Lensch, Richard Lensch, and Laurie Lensch Hemphill, Craig Larson and Julie Larson Schwartz, and Joanie Hayward Helm, Chris Drummer and Mike Hayward; stepson, Sam Abraham; and niece Mary Abraham Slaveck.
