Leighton Aaron Weber, 13, passed away September 6, 2025 at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital surrounded by his family who cherished him dearly. Leighton fought an incredible battle with cancer from the age of 2, with multiple relapses and remissions of neuroblastoma. This life on earth was never easy for him given the challenges he was facing with his health but it never stopped him from loving life and spending precious time with his family.
Leighton’s smile lit up the room and everyone that got to know him loved him, he was truly selfless and always worried how everyone was doing and never about himself. Leighton loved to compete in sports and most recently was part of the wrestling team at Taft Middle school where he competed winning several matches all while going through treatment. He loved spending time at his grandparents’ farm, riding his 4-wheeler and going boating, he also loved swimming, going to the trampoline park and, like most 13-year-olds, gaming with his friends and cousins. Whether it was doing activities or just spending time with Mom and Ddad and his siblings, he always expressed his happiness in those moments. Leighton had a strong bond built on love and trust with his older brother Jarron and he loved going to the gym with him, cooking and eating healthy, going fishing or just hanging out. The bond they shared was irreplaceable and amazing to see throughout the years.
Leighton was not your average 13-year-old, he LOVED knowledge and learning facts, if he didn’t know something he would immediately research it and tell you all about what he had learned, even though he had to miss a lot of school due to his cancer and treatments he would always succeed in academics, and school was easy for him because he knew that knowledge is powerful. Leighton never wanted to leave this earth because his love for his friends and family was so great he didn’t want to imagine not having them close, but he found comfort in knowing that when he did he would finally be free of pain and would find so much happiness in God’s arms. Words cannot begin to describe how much he will be missed by everyone that knew and loved him.
Leighton is preceded in death by his grandfathers Aaron Rivera and Kalil Ajram, great-grandparents Jerry and Dorothy Roman, Janice Gillihan and Joe and Lavonne Weber. He is survived by his parents Jordan Weber and Ulyssa Ajram, stepfather Jamel Ajram, and siblings Jarron Weber, Shazyl Ajram, Amaar Ajram and Kaylah and Roman Ajram-Wright. Also grandparents Scott and Sheri Weber, Theresa Rivera, and Allea Ajram. Also loved dearly by his aunts and uncles: Michael and Erica Steinberg, Elisha Howe, Stephen and Ninh Rivera, Shawna and Marshall Truitt and all of his cousins.
The family would like to thank the University of Iowa Children’s Oncology and PICU teams, Dr. Dickens, and all of the doctors and health professionals for the great care Leighton received over the years and; a special thank-you to the PICU doctors and nurses who provided comfort in his final moments.
