Colorado Springs, Colo.
Leigh Alexandra Schilling, beloved daughter of Everett Schilling of rural Alburnett and Allison Towe of Colorado Springs, Colo., passed away on June 6, 2022, in a Denver hospital at the age of 30. Leigh was born prematurely on Dec. 5, 1991, with congenital heart defects. At the age of 2 days, she was rushed to Iowa City where she had her first heart surgery. She had a second heart surgery at the age of 5. Several months prior to her death, Leigh underwent a valve replacement and was doing well until infection set in and overcame her body.
Leigh graduated from Air Academy High School in Colorado Springs in 2010 and from Pikes Peak Community College in the 2012 with a degree in Multimedia Graphic Design. Leigh worked for Blue Star Recycling and was a dog sitter. Dogs and cats were the love of her life. She also had a passion for horses and spent time with her step-grandma Pam’s horses when she visited Iowa.
Leigh had an infectious smile, beautiful blue eyes, caring personality and generous heart. Her hands were seldom idle. If she wasn’t knitting a thoughtful creation for someone, she was making thoughtful cards, never missing a holiday. Her mind was always on giving to others.
Leigh’s other loves included The Trans-Siberian Orchestra, where she often attended their events with a front row seats and she attended local rodeos with friends.
Leigh will lovingly be remembered by her father; mother; maternal grandmother, Jo; her beloved dog Ralph’s; her beloved cats, Dot, Dash and Precious; special friends, Erin Blackford and Kaitlyn Floyd; numerous family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to a gathering at the home of Leigh’s Dad in rural Alburnett on Sunday, June 26, from noon to 2 p.m. in remembrance of Leigh.
May Leigh’s smiling soul shine in!
