Lehn, Harold Joseph
Harold Joseph Lehn was born Dec. 30, 1935, in Holbrook, the son of Edward and Verona (Schell) Lehn. He graduated from Parnell High School. He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1957. On April 11, 1959, he was united in marriage to Erlene Chrisman at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Holbrook. They lived and farmed in the Holbrook area. Harold was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Holbrook and St. Mary's Catholic Church, Williamsburg. He was a life long farmer and a NC+ seed salesman for many years. In his younger years, he enjoyed participating in horse shows and tractor pulls. He enjoyed camping and music. He took pride in his vehicles and farm equipment, a man who even waxed his tractors. His home, yard and the land he worked were always well kept and attended to. Harold died on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, at the age of 77 years.
He is survived by his children, Deb (Bob) Thurman of Waterloo, Bob Lehn of Parnell, Julie Lehn of Phoenix, Ariz. and Amy Lehn of Williamsburg; seven grandchildren, Nicholas Schropp, Jerry Thurman, Ashley Lehn, Leah Schropp, Ryan Thurman, Ethan Lehn and Cole Lehn; and four sisters, Norma Fischer of Tell City, Ind., Marietta Dermody of Williamsburg, Dorothy Reader of Mountain Home, Ark. and Alice Tritle of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Erlene in 2011; a granddaughter, Christina Thurman; and two sisters, Helen Petree and Viola Werner.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 24, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Williamsburg. Father Joseph Roost will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Williamsburg. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg, with a prayer service at 3 p.m.
A memorial fund has been established for the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.
