Lehman, George A.
George A. Lehman, 78, of Iowa City, died peacefully at his home on Jan. 24, 2013. A memorial service will be held later this spring.
George was born June 2, 1934, in Iowa City, to George and Alberta Lehman. He was a graduate of Iowa City High School in 1954. George married Arlene Memler on Aug. 7, 1955, in Iowa City. He served in the United States Army from 1956-1958.
George worked as an electrician with the Traffic Engineering Department for the City of Iowa City for 30 years before retiring in 1994. He was a handyman and could fix almost anything. George enjoyed going to the cabin in Minnesota and going camping with his RVs.
George was a charter member of the Hawkeye Kennel Club.
The family would like to thank the nurses at Iowa City Hospice for the care they provided George, and also his neighbors for all the help and support over the last year.
George is survived by his fiancee, Cecelia Schulz; one daughter, Teresa (Mike) Sladek of Iowa City; one son, G. Chris (Brenda) Lehman of Arizona; three sisters, E. Leora Hein of Iowa City, Evelyn Elnora (Harold) Wilkerson of West Liberty and Ellen (Don) Pelechek of Coralville; one brother, Bob (Vicki) Lehman of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Christopher (Lynn) Lehman of Texas and Michael (Bethany) Lehman of Texas; one great-grandchild, Elliott Lehman of Texas; Cecelia's three children, Kathy Wall, Brian Schulz and George Schulz, all of the Quad Cities; and many nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Arlene; one sister-in-law, Charlene Lehman; and one brother-in-law, Ken Hein.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Diabetes Association, The American Heart Association, or The American Cancer Society.
