Lee Joseph Smith, 77, of Greenwood, Ark., formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 15, 2014, at St. Edwards Mercy Hospital Hospice in Fort Smith, Ark. A memorial Mass was held Friday, March 28, at St. Sabina & Mary Catholic Church in Jenny Lind, Ark. The Air Force Honor Guard paid tribute to him following the mass. His body was cremated.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Smith; children, Deb Linder and Sue (Nick) Poshusta; brother, Gene Smith; sisters, Betty Johnson and Joyce Smith; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Frances Smith; brother, Donald Smith; and nephew, Gary Smith.
Born June 24, 1936, Lee served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1958. He married Barbara Mayrand on Nov 29, 1958 Lee was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. He worked for the Chicago Northwestern/Union Pacific Railroad for 30 years before retiring to Greenwood, Ark., with his wife, Barbara.
