Lee Allen DeWitt, 75, of North Port, Fla., passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, in hospice. He was born on Dec. 17, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Gene and Margaret DeWitt.
Lee was united in marriage to Charlotte DeWitt (Kluss) and two children, Andrew and Shannon were born from this marriage. Lee retired from General Mills in 2010 and he and Charlotte moved to North Port, Fla. He loved wildlife and spent his retirement volunteering at the Peace River Wildlife Center in Punta Gordo where he rescued animals and honored any request made of him. Lee loved playing chess, participating in several tournaments over the years and loved sharing his knowledge of chess with young adults.
Lee loved spending time with family. He was kind and generous, always putting others before himself. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by wife, Charlette DeWitt; children, Andrew DeWitt (Stephanie) and Shannon Schlofelt (Mike); and grandson, Killian Schlofelt.
He was preceded in death by parents, Gene and Margaret DeWitt; and brothers Pat and Kim DeWitt.
There will be a small service in Florida on March 15, and an additional service in Cedar Rapids at a place and time yet to be determined.
