Lee A. Johnson, 78, of Cedar Rapids, passed away from Alzheimer's disease on Friday, May 21, 2021. A private family funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial to follow at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Lee Allen Johnson was born on Feb. 17, 1943, in Pelican Rapids, Minn., to Lawrence and Amy (Forsgren) Johnson. He graduated from high school in 1961. He then attended North Dakota State University, graduating with his bachelor's degree in 1965 and his Master's degree in 1966. Lee graduated with honors and was also in five different honorary engineering fraternities. He was united in marriage to Chloe Kelly on Aug. 28, 1965. Lee enjoyed a long career with Rockwell Collins before his retirement in 2001.
Lee was a patient, laid back man who was friendly to everyone he met and well liked by his coworkers. He was a handyman and was passionate about avionics. He enjoyed traveling, reading, woodworking, outdoor activities, and amateur radio.
Lee is survived by his wife of 55 years, Chloe; son, David (Kathryn) Johnson; daughter, Debbie (Jason) Brunken; grandchildren, Jaden, Kristen and Jenna; brother, Ron (Valerie) Johnson; and Diane Briggs.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents and son, Daniel Johnson.
Memorial donations may be made in Lee's name to Hospice of Mercy.
